Bathroom Zones

When fitting lighting in the bathroom the IP rating of the light fitting must be considered, the
bathroom is split into Zones to help you navigate the standard of protection is required.

Bathroom Zone 0
Zone 0 is inside the bath or the shower. If lighting is required in this zone, any fitting used must use a low voltage supply and rated to IP67 which means it is totally immersion proof.

Bathroom Zone 1
Zone 1 is the area above the bath or shower to a height of 2.25m from the floor. Any fitting used in this zone must have a minimum rating of IP44, which means it is protected against water spray from all directions.

Bathroom Zone 2
Zone 2 is an area stretching 0.6m outside the perimeter of the bath and to a height of 2.25m from the floor, in this zone IP44 rating is required.

Bathroom Zone 3 (Outside Zones)
Zone 3 is anywhere outside zones 0, 1 and 2 (subject to specific limits) and where no water jet is likely to be used.

CFL

Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb is energy-saving and more efficient against the standard
halogen bulb. Uses up to 75% less energy compared to incandescent light-bulbs.

Colour Temperature

Colour temperature is conventionally expressed in kelvins (using the symbol K). Colour temperatures over
4000K are called cool white, while lower colour temperatures (2700–3000 K) are called warm white.

Energy Rating

All our lights are rated in terms of energy efficiency classes, from A+++ to D. LED
bulbs are usually A grade and halogen bulbs are generally D grade

Halogen

Known for good quality of light output which is energy efficient compared to standard incandescent lightbulbs.

Integrated LED

LED lighting is built into the product, no lightbulb required. LED can last up to
25,000 hours. Available in cool white or warm white options

IP Rating

Stands for ‘ingress protection’: Light fittings are given an IP rating to indicate their suitability for a particular environment.
• IP65 or above should be used for outside products
• IP44 or above is recommended for bathrooms and kitchens
• Products rated below IP44 should avoid wet and moister conditions

LED

Stands for Light-emitting diode. Energy efficient and long lasting, LED can last up to 25,000 hours
(Selected lines only), uses up to 90% less energy compared to traditional incandescent lightbulbs.

Lumens

The Light output, the higher the number the brighter the light.

Wattage

The amount of energy a lamp consumes. The operating power of the lamp.
